Intelligent control and monitoring of energy-intensive systems allows for an immediate, informed response to spikes in energy consumption. Energy usage data is gathered by specialized sensors in various parts of a facility and sent over the network to a database housed on the server. Authorized personnel can monitor this data and adjust controls on configurable devices using a Web-based software application that is accessible via the local network or even the Internet (if remote access is enabled). This software application allows for real-time monitoring and also acts as a control interface where administrators can adjust the function of certain devices.
In addition to granulated monitoring and control, the system can be configured to automatically detect changes within the environment and respond intelligently. For example, light switches and air conditioning may be controlled depending on whether a hotel room is occupied. Such environmental variables are measured with sensors that communicate with an "intelligent device". Such devices are configured by administrators and will automatically make any necessary adjustments according their programming.
